Bindni’s storytelling journey began at the age of 11 through the traditional Indian Classical dance form “Kathak” – literally translated as “Story”. She performed on stages across the country as part of theatrical shows, live events and dance programmes until the love of film took over. Through formal education Bindni studied the mediums of cinema and moving image to eventually build a career in the film industry spanning over 12 years.
Bindni is of Indian origin, born in Kenya, brought up in the Midlands and is currently based in London. The mixed cultural background and extensive travel exposure bring about an avid interest in Bindni to bring thought provoking and visually impelling stories to the masses through the medium of film.
Bindni’s experience varies in capacity across 18 feature films in production among other media projects such as short films, infomercials, music videos, 3D animation, fashion films and commercials. She is able to combine technical, creative and production principles to deliver quality projects. Having sound knowledge and practical experience in production, budgeting and scheduling gives her a lateral understanding of the film-making process from development to release, alongside having a strong foundation of the craft of storytelling.
Over the years, Bindni has produced and directed a number of formats which include a documentary titled Street Play (2009) which highlights the right for children to ‘play’. In addition, she has directed a 13min 3D Animation film titled Yagnatarium (2015) about Hindu symbolism which was exhibited nationwide in India as part of a birth centenary rally of a prominent philosopher. Her most recent achievement includes producing and directing a short film ‘Cardboard’ (2019), which was the official selection at Lakecity International Film Festival Delhi, the online official selection at Lift-Off Global Network London and the Highest Commendation at London-Worldwide Comedy Short Film Festival.
In particular, Bindni’s multilingual capabilities enable her to relate to niche communities and stories that are rarely brought to the screen in an authentic manner. Being British yet having Asian influences gives her a unique perspective. Her experience has exposed her to works from around the world in varying cultures and languages including English, Hindi, Tamil, Romanian, Spanish & Arabic.
Since 2011 Bindni has collaborated with other film makers as a script/creative consultant for feature films. In 2016 she partnered with writer Lakhveer Azad in development of various feature films to produce and direct under the banner of Spirits on the Scaffolds in association with producer Cyrus Patel under Eastern Vibes Production Ltd.
